Two cruise lines offer a truly "hand-on" culinary center experience ... Oceania & Regent. Two of Oceania's ships have culinary centers onboard their Riviera & Marina and the brand new Regent Seven Seas Explorer has a state of the art teaching center.
To get started searching for the Oceania cruise of your choice, simply click on the logo at the left and start searching for cruises on the Marina or the Riviera, or just give a call ... foodie travel consultants are standing by to answer your call.
According to Smartertravel, Oceania was named the best cruise line for foodies by both Fodor's and Berlitz in 2015. In 2014, SmarterTravel’s sister site, Cruise Critic, called it a “best dining” editor’s pick, while USA Today listed the line’s Red Ginger among the best restaurants at sea. In 2013, Oceania won “best dining” in the cruise category of Condé Nast Traveler’s readers’ choice awards.
Such consistent acclaim should be expected from a luxury line, especially when that line’s culinary director is Jacques Pepin. Pepin himself joins along for two Oceania voyages, including one that goes from Venice to Lisbon, and another that goes Venice to Rome. During both of those itineraries, guests get treated to special menus, culinary lectures, cooking demos, and other goodies designed to keep gourmand hearts (and palates) happy.
Menus may appear to include the usual beef Wellington and Maine lobster, but in the hands of Regent Seven Seas chefs the results are some of the most outstanding meals at sea.
Specialty dining varies within the fleet, but Seven Seas Voyagerand Seven Seas Mariner, have the edge with the sophisticated Signatures, featuring the most authentic French cuisine to be found outside of Paris.
Prime 7, on all three ships, is a contemporary adaptation of the classic American steak house offering fresh, distinctive decor and an innovative menu of the finest prime-aged steak and chops, along with fresh seafood and poultry specialties. In addition, Mediterranean-influenced bistro dinners that need no reservations are served in Sette Mari at La Veranda, the venue that is the daytime casual Lido buffet restaurant.

According to Fodors ... The food alone is reason enough to book a Crystal cruise. Dining in the main restaurants is an event starring a Continental-inspired menu of dishes served by European-trained waiters. Off-menu item requests are honored when possible, and special dietary considerations are handled with ease.
Full-course vegetarian menus are among the best at sea. Themed to the region you are sailing, lavish luncheon buffets take place on deck on select days at sea. Casual poolside dining beneath the stars is offered on some evenings in a relaxed, no-reservations option. A variety of hot-and-cold hors d'oeuvres are served in bars and lounges every evening before dinner and again during the wee hours in The Bistro.
But the specialty restaurants really shine. Contemporary Asian cuisine is served in Silk Road and the Sushi Bar, featuring the signature dishes of Nobu Matsuhisa. Both ships also have Prego, which serves regional Italian cuisine by Piero Selvaggio, owner of Valentino in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
Exclusive Wine & Champagne Makers dinners are hosted in the Vintage Room. On select evenings, casual poolside theme dinners are served under the stars.
Crystal has an extensive wine list, including its own proprietary label called C Wines, which are produced in California. Complimentary wines are poured with meals, as is common on other luxury cruise lines. You won't pay extra for any alcoholic beverages, bottled water, soft drinks, and specialty coffees; all are included in your basic fare.

Aboard the 62-guest Crystal Esprit, the culinary concept centers around the local ingredients of the Seychelles and the Mediterranean coast. On another ship to come, the 84-guest Crystal Ravel, whose maiden voyage departed in August 2017, a weeklong itinerary called “Bordeaux, the Wine Region & Beyond” headed into the heart of France’s wine region, including a visit to Arachon, a seaside town famous for its oysters.

According to CruiseCritic, Seabourn passengers are a discriminating lot when it comes to food and wine. Expectations are high, for all venues. We experienced few missteps in the kitchen on our 14-night sailing; most passengers we talked to seemed happy with the choices and rated the culinary experience favorably with Sojourn's competition. Portion sizes are kept small and European, which means you'll never have that uncomfortable "stuffed" feeling that's a hallmark of other cruise lines. (If you're really worried about being hungry, order multiple appetizers.)
When asked to describe Sojourn's signature offerings, Seabourn Executive Chef Tony Egger didn't hesitate. "Lobster, Champagne and caviar." All three are served copiously and on demand. In the late afternoon, you'll see Seabourn regulars ordering little trays of caviar, complete with egg yolk, egg whites, red onion, creme fraiche and crakers. We didn't find out about this until the end of the cruise -- don't make that mistake!
